Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festivals 2017

Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festivals 2017

Launched in 2011, this is the seventh consecutive year that the Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festival took place for participating prep schools and colleges. Well known as the unique open-water water polo festival hosted in the Knysna Waterfront Quays, this action-filled event is a huge attraction for schools from all over South Africa. As a festival and not a tournament, there are no official results, providing schools with the opportunity to hone and test their skills against opponents in a friendly, fun, yet competitive manner. Since its inception, the festival has grown into what is fast becoming one of the not-to-be-missed sporting events for schools around the country. Oakhill was thrilled to once again welcome 24 teams from 16 primary schools participating in the Prep school festival from 9 – 12 February, and 25 participating teams from 17 schools at the College Festival from 19 – 19 February.

With well over 300 participants the first weekend and 350 the second weekend, this festival brings on average over 600 visiting participants to Knysna annually, excluding their travelling families and many other supporters.

As in the past, well over 1 500 “bed nights” have been booked in various hotels and B&Bs for the participants and coaches across Knysna, and participants and supporters are encouraged to enjoy what Knysna has to offer and support the local restaurants and shops. “The festival is always an exciting spectator event, well worth the visit to watch top playing teams competing. Join in the summer spirit, come and support the players or grab a drink or meal alongside and enjoy the festive vibe!” invites Oakhill marketing manager Karine Trollip.
