Music in the Blue

Lights. Sound. Action. And so, Music in the Blue 2012 began on 17 August 2012, with performances ranging from solos and duets, to band compilations ….. the audience were in for multiple treats as the night unfolded.

Liza Combrinck and her Grade 12 Music partners introduced the evening with a rendition of “All that Jazz”. The evening soon developed into a musical spectacle that Oakhill can be proud of. There were certain “stand-out” performances and as I type away at the key board certain ones spring to mind. Adam and Jono’s recreation of the Arctic Monkey’s “Marty Bum” set the stage on fire, Sasha Benjamin’s computer generated sounds and electric guitar solos were breathtaking and Luke Mincione’s “House of the Rising Sun” solo was simply incredible. Another performer who impressed me was Joshua Buchalter, who played My Chemical Romance’s “Black Parade” on the piano. The fact that Joshua only started playing this instrument less than a year ago is simply remarkable.

After approximately two hours of musical entertainment, Mr Vieyra, the Master of Ceremonies for the night, concluded the festivities and night one of Music in the Blue2012 came to an end. People left the hall dancing, smiling and chatting about the variety of talent exists at Oakhill.

Thank you to all the people who made this spectacular evening possible – the performers, the spectators, the stage hands, the RV Club members and of course, Mrs Schoeman.
