Old Oaks

Congratulations

On Thursday, 21st October Allison Powell (Matric student – 2004) was awarded the Deputy Vice Chancellor Student Affairs Student Leader Award at UCT. She has been involved in the student health and welfare organisation SHAWCO, since her early years studying medicine.

Last year she was the Vice President of SHAWCO health and this year was elected President. She has also been on the board of the Health Sciences faculty. There is a write up about the awards ceremony on the UCT website (uct.ac.za) and a picture of Allison, the person she shared the award with and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Crain Soudien. She started being very involved in community outreach and leadership while at Oakhill school, being a representative on the SRC for much of her time and President of the Interact club. This has obviously stood her in good stead and we are grateful for the opportunities that she had while at Oakhill.
